Following the second coming of Jesus, Satan is bound for a thousand years in the bottomless pit, which could be anywhere. However, it could very well be the earth itself. Satan will not be able to leave the earth and no one is left alive for him to tempt. Up to now, he has had very little time to really think about his situation. Now he will have all the time he needs to realize what he has done.

For an alternate possibility of what happens to Satan at the second coming of Jesus, see Section 3.9

When Jesus comes the second time: All the wicked are killed (See below); The righteous saints are taken to be with the Lord (See Section 6.3); And Satan is locked up in the pit (See below).

While the Righteous are reigning with Christ for a thousand years (See Section 6.3), the wicked are dead and know nothing. Only after the thousand years are they raised to life (See Section 6.4). But of course they will be facing a fearful judgement process and altimately the second death which is a permanent death from which they will never awake from (See Section 6.5).

Satan will be Under Lock and Key.

During the thousand years, there is no one on the earth that Satan could deceive or tempt. From Section 5.9 we see that all the wicked will be killed when Jesus comes. The best two scriptures in Section 5.9 to confirm this point is the following: Revelation 19:21, 2 Thessalonians 2:8

  1. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. Revelation 19:21.
  1. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth, and destroy with the brightness of His coming.
  2. The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
  3. and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2 Thess 2:8-10.

No Person is Left Alive on the Earth

Jeremiah also helps to show that there will be no one left on the earth after Jesus comes. It is interesting that he uses the same words used in the book Genesis to describe the earth. The earth was without form and void.

  1. I beheld the earth, and indeed it was without form, and void; And the heavens, they had no light.
  2. I beheld the mountains, and indeed they trembled, And all the hills moved back and forth.
  3. I beheld, and indeed there was no man, And all the birds of the heavens had fled.
  4. I beheld, and indeed the fruitful land was a wilderness, And all its cities were broken down At the presence of the LORD, By His fierce anger. Jeremiah 4:23-26.

We can see that there are broken down cities, all man is destroyed and the ground is extremely unstable. This is the result of God's fierce anger, and at the presence of the Lord, all this was done!

Jeremiah is not speaking of the past, he is speaking of some time in the future, because we see that there are broken down cities and man is disappeared from the face of the earth! The only time this could be, is the 1000 years after Jesus comes. No one is alive on the earth.

Many believe that the righteous will reign with Jesus on earth during this time, however, in Section 6.3 we will see that God's people are in Heaven with Jesus, not on the earth. Indeed Jeremiah says that no man will be found on the earth during this time.

The earth could very well be the pit that Satan is put in. Some believe that the righteous people will be with Jesus on earth during this time, so they think Satan must be somewhere else. However, no one will be left alive on the earth during the thousand year period. It would be a fitting place for Satan to view the destruction of cities and man and think what he has done.
